Fazenda Campo Alegre grows the family tradition in its fields. It is currently run by the second and third generations in the family.
Jair Brás follows in his father’s footsteps, a pioneer in the production of coffee, as well as in milk.
Without a doubt, the blood heritage drives his steps to perpetuate the legacy of his father in the fields and to walk alongside his son, Pedro Brás, 34.
Nowadays they produce specialty and exotic coffees in the Canastra mountains in the cities of Piumhi and Vargem Bonita.
At Fazenda Campo Alegre there are 120 hectares with a patio, dryers and complete processing infrastructure, with varieties such as Rubi, Catuaí and Paraíso.
There are also 14 hectares at Fazenda Baixadão, Casa Brás and Sítio São Pedro, with African beds and varieties such as Yellow Catuaí, Red Catuaí, Laurina, Geisha, Pacamara, and SL28 are grown.
They are mineiros passionate about coffee and for the Canastra region, who have been gifted with the chance to work on these lands and today actively contribute to refining the region’s coffee culture.
The Canastra mountains are one of those hidden corners of the world where the essence of Minas Gerais is preserved. As well as making some of the best artisan cheeses in Brazil, it is also where some of its best coffees are grown.
As well as having a favorable terroir, the region also has true artisans of simple, unique souls, connected to the land, who grow coffee with dedication and admiration, in a symbiotic process in which they are each other’s guardian.
With new technologies, modern machinery and a new philosophy of cultivation and commercialization, the coffees produced by these families have entered not just into the specialty coffee market, but on the wish lists of great afficionados.
The fields are protected by exuberant, practically untouched, nature that helps tell the farms’ stories. They are preparing themselves to keep producing some of the country’s best coffees.
